A good friend of mines shared her opinion on my N word article where she brings up some great points so here it is (i also added my response cause i love having the last word):
" I strongly disagree with you. The N word should not be a word that blacks use. It is just a "word" but with that being said, it was used to put blacks in their place and makes us feel like second class citizens, so it is not "just a word". Words hurts and the N word, was used to demoralized blacks and put us in our place. Too many people dies fighting for us not be described by that word, so I think it's a slap in the face of all those that die so you can be allow some of the freedoms you have today to used that word. Being a asshole is okay now and then but somethings are just not joking matters. I get sad every time I hear one of us use this word to describe ourselves."

HI, Rufie
I definitely understand your argument, and you bring up a lot of key points.... But.......I think when it comes to our disgust of the N word we need to ask ourselves this.... was it the word that held us down? Or. Was it society that held us down?
People didn’t die to stop being called the N word. They died to gain the right to vote, the right to be considered a citizen, to be equal. That’s what they died for...I can’t say you are wrong to feel a certain way...but...
The fact that this word can affect you and many others in such a potent way. Shows that we as a people still have a long way to go. The only way to take the sting out of the N word is to do just that “take the sting out of it”. It exist, its here nothing we do can erase its existence. The fact its okay for some black people to use this word and get so fired up over anyone else using it, stinks of hypocrisy. Since the ones we claimed died fighting this word, actually died so we all black white Spanish whatever can all do and SAY the same things.
